At The Rock Shop, collectors may obtain a Pit Permit ($10.00 per vehicle per day) for their excursion into one of the best collection sites in North America. Twelve acres in size, the pits were worked for gravel as early as 1930. Spring Hours – May

The pit is open first light until dark as long as you have a Pit Permit. The Permits are sold at the Rock Shop or if we are not open you can get them across the street at the Corner Store. The Permits cost $10.00 per car load of people and it allows you to take from the pit 25 lbs. of stone per car.
Also included in the Permit is a back shop tour and a Rock Hounding Lesson. During the months of July and August this tour and lesson is scheduled at 2:00 PM Monday through Saturday if staffing is available. If you are unable to make the tour times you will still get a lesson at the front counter on what to look for at the Souris Rock Pit.
