The Souris Rock Shop

The Town of Souris is a small active community of 1,800 located in rural, southwest Manitoba.

Souris is of prime interest to collectors of agate, the semi-precious stone which attracts hundreds of "rock hounds" to the Souris pits each summer.   Situated on the high banks of the Souris River at the mouth of Plum Creek, Souris is 230 kilometres of Winnipeg, Manitoba's capital city and only 65 kilometres north of the North Dakota border.

The lapidary enthusiast can obtain information on collecting at The Souris Rock Shop.   The shop houses a fine collection of epidote, jasper, petrified wood and of course many varieties of agate, some quite unique to the Souris region.  Rock pickers and hounds comb these pits each summer for unusual specimens.  Small tours are held during the summer months as well.

At The Rock Shop, collectors may obtain a Pit Permit ($10.00 per vehicle per day) for their excursion into one of the best collection sites in Manitoba.   Twelve acres in size, the pits were worked for gravel as early as 1930.

The Souris Rock Shop is open all year long!

online shopping will be available May 1st.
